Es ist ein Stück Geschichte, und zwar nicht nur Graffiti-Geschichte: The Notorious B.I.G. blickt schon seit einer kleinen Ewigkeit auf uns herab. Gemeint ist hier allerdings das großflächige, berühmte Mural an der Ecke Bedford Avenue und Quincy Street in Brooklyn. Genau diesem Bild steht jetzt offenbar das Aus bevor.
Biggie Mural About to Be Destroyed, Bed-Stuy Building Owner Says
BEDFORD-STUYVESANT - A two-story mural of Bed-Stuy's hometown hero Notorious B.I.G. is slated to be destroyed after the owner of the building on which it's painted prepares to renovate, according to the landlord and and the mural's artists.
Anscheinend möchte der Besitzer des Gebäudes das Haus komplett renovieren und dabei auch neue Fenster einsetzen lassen. Genau an der Stelle, wo aktuell noch Biggies Konterfei prangt. Das muss dann natürlich weg beziehungsweise wird wohl dabei zerstört, was aktuell für viel Aufregung sorgt.
Dafür fehlt Vielen das Verständnis: Ein derartig geschichtsträchtiges Bild einfach so dem Erdboden gleich machen zu wollen, um letzten Endes wohl einfach nur höhere Mieten verlangen zu können. Schöner wäre natürlich, wenn ein derartiges Kunstwerk unter Denkmalschutz gestellt werden könnte.
Eine Initiative namens Spread Art NYC setzt aktuell alle Hebel in Bewegung, um das Vorhaben des Gebäudebesitzers aufzuhalten. Die Chancen scheinen aktuell allerdings alles andere als gut zu stehen und der Eigentümer des Hauses sieht überhaupt nicht ein, auf die geplante Renovierung zu verzichten, wie DNAInfo schreibt.
