Dass der Award ausgerechnet so heißt, stößt auf Kritik, hier geht es aber um etwas viel Wichtigeres: Die Performance, die Missy Elliott auf der VMA-Bühne abgeliefert hat, stellt das absolute Highlight der Preisverleihung dar. Missy Elliott hat haufenweise Musikvideos nachgestellt, unglaublich viele Künstler und Künstlerinnen auf die Bühne geholt und sich in wahnwitziger Geschwindigkeit zwischendurch umgezogen.

Die zum Besten gegebenen Songs von Missy Elliott umfassen "Work It", "Throw it Back", "The Rain" , "Hot Boyz", "Get Ur Freak On" und "Pass That Dutch". Währenddessen wurden aber nicht nur die Kulissen um- und aufgebaut, es gab auch haufenweise abgefahrene Tanz-Moves zu sehen.

Unter anderem sogar von Alyson Stoner, die vor vielen Jahren schon als kleines Mädchen im Video zu "Work It" zu sehen war.
