Schon wieder verstummt eine Stimme aus der Rapwelt viel zu früh. Mac Miller ist laut einer Nachricht seiner Familie, die der DPA vorliegt, gestern im Alter von nur 26 Jahren "tragisch gestorben". Die Nachricht vom Tod des Rappers, der spätestens mit 18 Jahren durch sein Mixtape "K.I.D.S." internationale Bekanntheit erlangte, löst bei etlichen Kollegen Trauer aus. Sein fünftes Studioalbum "Swimming" erschien erst vor knapp einem Monat.
Unbestätigten Berichten zufolge soll Malcolm McCormick – so sein bürgerlicher Name – an einer Überdosis Drogen gestorben sein. Seine Suchtprobleme waren schon vor wenigen Monaten der Grund für die Trennung von Sängerin Ariana Grande, mit der er über zwei Jahre zusammen war. Auch in seiner Musik war das Thema stets präsent.
Eine Zeile aus seinem Song "Brand Name" (2015) dürfte in diesem Zusammenhang nun häufiger zu lesen sein. Dort rappte er, nicht dem Club 27 beitreten zu wollen, zu dem Legenden wie Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin und Amy Winehouse gehören. Im Januar wäre Mac 27 Jahre alt geworden:

I remember first meeting you in 2015 when your tour and joeys tour had to share the same space, you brought Domo Genesis and Goldlink on tour that night was the Good Domination night and from then on we've had several encounters with each other. You were always kind to everyone and was always smiling. The last thing you sent to me was this because Self Care and Clout Cobain dropped at the same time and they were both doing well.
