Kendrick Lamar könnte bei den MTV Video Music Awards am 27. August als großer Gewinner aus dem Abend hervorgehen. Gleich sieben Mal ist das Musikvideo zu seinem bislang einzigen Nummer-1-Hit Humble nominiert – auch in der Kategorie Video of the Year.
Obendrauf gibt es die Nominierung als Artist of the Year. Mit insgesamt acht möglichen "Moonmen", wie die Awards oft genannt werden, steht Kendrick deutlich vor den zweitplatzierten Katy Perry und The Weeknd mit je fünf Nominierungen. In der Vergangenheit war der Rapper schon sechs Mal nominiert und hat ein Mal gewonnen (Best Direction für Alright).
Ebenfalls Chancen auf einen Award haben zahlreiche Rap-Acts wie Future, die Migos, Young Thug, Kanye West, A Tribe Called Quest, Kodak Black, SZA, Young M.A, DJ Khaled, D.R.A.M., Lil Yachty, Logic, Run The Jewels oder Kyle.
