J Dillas Mutter, Maureen "Ma Dukes" Yancey, veröffentlicht diesen Sommer ein 40 Tracks umfassendes Album des verstorbenen Produzenten. Das Projekt soll The King Of Beats (Ma Dukes Yancey Collector's Edition Box Set) heißen, wie hiphopdx.com berichtet.

Es handele sich hier um eine Compilation aus vier Vinyls und einer Kassette, die fünf unreleaste Beats und weiteres Material beinhalte. Die Box solle aussehen wie eine E-Mu SP-1200, mit der Dilla sehr gerne produziert habe.

Maureen Yancey, die die Rechte an J Dillas Musik besitzt, habe sich lange überlegt, was sie denn mit den vielen Bootlegs ihres Sohnes mit unbekannten Rappern mache:

"This project came about by a lot of soul searching and meditation as to what can I do now that my son has so many bootleg projects out by unknown artists without my approval. Now that I'm out of mourning and full of insight and feeling my son's energy radiate around me, I wanted to do something different but iconic, something that people would preserve and relish for a lifetime that spoke quality."

Sie habe ein Jahr lang an dem Release gearbeitet:

"I inspected every part just as Dilla would. Every letter engraved, every statement that was made had to say Dilla!. With my son, nothing could be ordinary and I had to be certain that the end result would make Dilla smile."
